Why is it important to stick to the script?
Casting Directors, like all of us, usually have someone higher to answer to. Our industry is as hierarchical as any other industry, so if a talent goes off script, the first question raised, usually by the Director, is why? Why did the talent choose to change the script? Changing the sides without permission to do so, is probably the best way to build familiarity with a Casting Director, for all the wrong reasons. Stick to the sides, and give the Casting Director something positive to call your agent about. Building good rapport only takes one Casting Director to take a shine to you, however; they all talk to each other, so show them 100% respect & professionalism to earn that next invite to cast or self-tape.
Teri’s experience aims to demonstrate the importance of remaining on script, and yours can too.
The Australian Actors Studio offers many creative guidelines for industry etiquette, helping students harness better ways of working, for an exciting career on stage, screen, and voice-overs.
